Guidance note 8 states that liason with Transco is required if there is no earth tag washer for terminating your main equipotential bonding conductor to, when the gas meter is in one of them ground mounted boxes.

Just wondering if anyone has contacted them before regarding this and how quickly they will respond. Would you have to have to be there when they arrive to make the final connection?

ok, i will start again.
The box housing the meter has a cable entry hole pre drilled for your benefit.

Extracted from guidance note 8:- In many situations it is not possible to connect the M.E.B conductor at the point that the gas installation pipe enters the building. In such cases, it is not desireable to make the bonding connection between the gas meter box and where the gas installation pipe enters the building outside because of the likelihood of corrrosion and or mechanical damage.

An alternative and most practical solution is to make the bonding connection inside the meter box itself. The gas distributor will provide an earth tag washer on the meter outlet adaptor for this purpose. In cases where such a washer has not been fitted, liason with transco will be required

Not always

I agree.

I am a gas fitter (as well as a spark) and have seen this Tracpipe UK used and similar used from the meter to inside the building.

I've never had to use it though - and wouldn't want to - it's just too expensive. I've always used either 22mm or 28mm copper & connected the earth clamp to that.

As an aside, 28mm is the biggest that domestic gas fitters have been allowed to use, but I've heard that as boilers are getting more powerful & therefore needing more gas, we're to be allowed to use up to 32mm. That's the same size as a wash basin waste pipe!!
