I have been asked by a regular customer to do a few small jobs in their house. One of the jobs was to replace an existing extractor fan which has vented into the loft for the past 5 years (approx). At present it does not work at all.

I explained that I was not happy to do this and I explained the reasons why. I offered to look around in the loft and see if I could fit ducting to the eaves, but the customer was adamant this would not be a possibility and I could tell they were a little put out that I had politely declined and not just done as they asked. I expect I'll get the quote for the other bits but justed wanted a few views on what others would have done in this situation.

Cheers all..

have a look in the loft, maybe there is ducting already in place and it just become detached from the fan.

Not a bad idea! Customer is adamant that it just vents into the loft space though and wasn't reseptive to me looking in the loft at the time. I'll have a peek when/if I go back.

Could cause condensation, with that come moult, with that come illness possibly, the loft is meant to be a cold area is it not? so venting hot damp air from the shower/bath area is not an ideal scenario, yes I've been watching Holmes on Homes for what its worth lol

One of these: http://www.screwfix.com/p/glidevale-versa-tile-vent-brown-110mm/22489

The condensation trap drains into a 22mm overflow pipe which you poke under the eaves so as to discharge into the guttering, so you need a lump of that as well and some means of supporting it to allow a gentle dangle downwards towards the gutter.
