My hot water is cold, and so are the central heating radiators. Just looked in the garage and there is no light in the boiler.

I've tried relighting using the instructions in the user guide and inside the flap, but it doesn't appear to work. It just says turn the knob to 6 and switch the on switch on and it will "light automatically in approx 15 seconds". But it doesn't. It's not making any noises either.

It looks like there is some power to it, but not really sure what to do next.

So just a couple of (quite possibly stupid) questions:

1) Is it safe to leave it until tomorrow?
2) Given that it has gas, water and electricity would I need to call a plumber or an electrician...?
3) Any ideas what would cause a boiler to 'unlight' itself and refuse to relight?

It's a Classic FF230-280 if that helps.

And if there are any forum members in the Stevenage area who fancy a crack at it tomorrow AM please let me know!

Not a spark or plumber a gas engineer and there a re a lot of reasons mine failed because the PCB went faulty after the resistive thermocouple failed. 24hours on a sunday afternoon it was fixed thank goodness for homecare from scottish gas

Might not be what you want to hear, but, i think you will find you are entitled to a boiler scrappage discount, as yours is "G" rated, which normally applies to boilers with a pilot light.

Maybe get a few quotes to replace?

DO NOT OPEN COVER this is dangerous & illegal You require the services of a gas safe registered plumber who can ascertain as to why you cannot relight. Look on gas safe website and find someone local He will also be able to advise re the scrappage scheme

Might just be that your water pressure has dropped too low. In which case there should be a tap for increasing pressure.
I think the pressure should be at 1 bar, and not below.

Another problem I have had has been a sticking flue switch.
As a safety measure the system shuts down if fumes are not going out of the flue.

BTW I am not a gas engineer, just a homeowner that has been left in the cold on occasions :)

The fan was bust, new one was £270 plus vat!

And had it serviced at the same time, so if it breaks again the emergency cover with my home insurance will cover it.

But toasty warm now... :D

Get in touch with british gas , join there service scheme about £ 20.00 per month , tell them you have a child under 5 they will call within 4 hours and sort you out plus you'll be insured for the rest of the year:D
