I usually go to the British grand prix - sometimes race, sometimes practice day...

This year however after reading forums and bloggs following Melbourne I may give it a miss

If the cars sound like lawn mowers what's the point??

I remember last year I took the wife (her first time), we got there slightly late and the cars came out as we were walking to the circuit from the car park - she said 'oh is that the red arrows?'!!

Considering the cost of it (even on practice day) I just feel it's not worth it without those screaming V8 18000 revs engines.

Formula One, going green?? pfft

I'm thinking about taking my son for the weekend at Silverstone where they run all the "old" cars - probably noisier and far cheaper!

Did anyone catch the Hunt v Lauda documentary on BBC the other week? I can't ever imagine any of today's drivers turning up on the grid at Brazil, hungover with a girl on each arm from the night before and then going on to win a World Championship! F1 is not what it was :(

I thought the demise of the V12/V10 engines was bad, but these new engines sound terrible!

You don't know until you have seen it for yourself! Personally I have never been for an F1 race as the view is much better on the TV.

The sound of the cars did sound fairly strange in OZ but I loved the sound of the turbos.

If you want some noise, go and watch the DTM. Sadly not at Brands anymore but that is some awesome racing usually with x f1 racers.

I used to go on the Friday of the GP for years until they got too pricy to go to. I've only been to one and that was the 1992 GP and a group of us went for the weekend, and had grandstand seats for the race at the end of Hanger Strait - Mansell mania. Fantastic atmosphere

Eddie Ervine used to manage this - not the world championship, but did drive a stonking race (when not overshadowed by MS)

The coverage is better on tv, you have a better overall picture of what's happening re the race, but to see the cars live is quite extraordinary:

The sound and power of the engines does not come across on tv (the ground vibrates).
When you see the cars live the speed that they can take corners seems impossible.
The acceleration of the cars - and how quickly they can slow down seems impossible.

I read somewhere that a f1 car can accelerate to 100mph and then brake to a complete stop - all in 3 seconds.

I was at that race (copse), amazing how the crowd were 'allowed' to invade the circuit!! I couldn't get anywhere near the podium though at the end :(

btw thanks for the link - booked 2 tickets (me and the mrs) for the saturday...

regards
