Has anyone tried facebook marketing? Latest offer is ÂŁ145 for 30 days in a 25 mile radius of my nearest town. All targeted at over homeowners over 40. Apparently 50k of them in our area actively on facebook everyday (which I seriously doubt) they reckon a click through of 1% - I think I'm talking myself out of this as I write this ...... has anyone had any positive experiences with Facebook????

I tried it for 30 days with the same offer of target area and age group. I didn't get one call.

No one I knew even saw my ad, even those a mile away. Not sure what order up the pecking list you are if people are spending a lot more money. I was very disappointed because it sounded so good.

ÂŁ145 doesn't sound a lot but thats what all these schemes seem to play on at the moment. Scoot, local trader and others. Pay ÂŁ100 you won't miss it will you. Nor will the other 50 companies.

I use Facebook quite a bit for social stuff (I'm a saddo) and the layout is such that the ads are not prominent and are easily ignored. Add to that the fact that people are unlikely to go on Facebook to actively look for solar and those that can afford it probably only go on to look at pictures of their grandkids and I can safely say I wouldn't entertain the idea of advertising on there, no matter how cheap it appears.

i havent m8, you got a facebook page for your company, or just advertising when they are on it

I haven't got one yet - it's on my list although I don't expect it to generate much just raise awareness a bit. I'm plugging away with twitter at the minute trying to generate a local profile but it's hard work finding time to think about something locally relevant. Trying local groups via Linked in too - its all free apart from my time and I've always found networking works well for me _ I just haven't done it face to face for a while - time to start meeting people again I think....

In the real world I know that Facebook, press ads, radio ads and fliers just don't work and face to face events work well for us but I keep wondering if this time it will work - a bit like an addict lol. It gets harder to resist the longer the phone doesn't ring - just 2 enquiries on the boil at the minute but a home event at the weekend - fingers crossed!!

Hi SRE how did the home event go? also was it a local thing or one of these big staduim jobs, nothing happening my end and not sure what to do next, i go on facebook alot and spoken to alot of people who have, and they all say the same as me they have never noticed let alone clicked on an advert.

cheers

Decided not to go down the Facebook route but I'm working on Twitter, trying to send out thought provoking tweets (when I'm not abusing Greg Barker) and trying to get local firms and media to follow what I'm saying. I've got maybe 6 or 7 local journalists following what I'm saying so next week I'm going to really start to plan what I'm saying and when to see if I can't get some more positive media coverage.

The home event was great - really encouraging because there was loads of people interested and we managed to get 4 surveys out of it. We did the last one yesterday and this weekend we start to chase up but there really doesn't seem to be much urgency at all. One of the 4 was just seeing if their property was suitable it is but you'd have to be really green to get it done because the figures are really tight. The other 3 are definite goers including achieveing EPC D rating because they all have natural gas - that's where we are having to concentrate our efforts now, but none have yet converted either with us or someone else. Very frustrating.

Next week is re-write the QMS and plan the marketing strategy week. We're booking in as many shows as possible they are hard work but give you the opportunity to show that you know what you're talking about in a non threatening environment. Cup cakes generate interest, especially if you tell the punters they are solar cup cakes - sad but true!!
