The above program on BBC1 Wed this week reported a consignment of 800 copies of the Big Green Book and the Electrician's Site Guide which are counterfeits and being sold cheaper than the normal price. Both have errors within them.

Watch out!:rifle:

Maybe safest to buy direct from the IET, you can order on their website without being a member.

So the moral of the story is go to a seller you know you can trust.
I can do an OSG for a fiver, a regs for a tenner and a guide to the building regs for a quid.
Form an orderly queue lads :)

Wouldn't trust a Geordie as far as I could throw him

When I say Amazon I mean only when it is sold and supplied by them and not just fulfilled by them. I only order from amazon if it's actually amazon selling and providing it.

i know what your saying though, I have heard of people having issues with sellers under amazon.

some good stuff, I picked up 12 tins of millicano for £24

its £3+ each just for refils normally

What i can't understand, is that all these counterfeiters would be doing, is photocopying. So where do these mistakes come about from?? Not as if these people would be rewriting all the text again would it...lol!! Sounds like a bit of scare mongering going on, in order to persuade people to buy the originals...

I think what has happened is that some of the info hasn't come out too well on copying, so they have inserted values, but plucked them from the wrong tables. I have seen some slides of the mistakes but cant find any examples on the interweb.

So what you're saying is, there are good counterfeit copies and bad counterfeit copies. ..lol!!

All i will say is, if it is obvious that it's a counterfeit copy, then stay clear, if it isn't obvious, (eg the copy quality is high throughout) then happy days, you get a reasonably priced copy of BS7671/OSG.... lol!!

Well as far as I know there has been just one batch/example of counterfeit copies, and it has mistakes in it... so it's not really that good value :s

I recently bought a GN3 from amazon for £11 new ! Seems too cheap to be legit but I have not noticed anything yet lol

Unless of course the mistakes are in the original!

I bought BS7671, OSG and GN3 from Amazon, came from 3 different sellers all were counterfeit.
BS7671 came via DHL from India! Got a refund on OSG and sent an email to the IET who kindly exchanged my regs book free of charge.

Got nowhere with my GN3 as I bought it too long ago!

I sat the 17th exam a few weeks ago and 60% of the lads there had fake copies. Some had got from fleabay some from amazon. You can tell the fakes coz the front cover is a slightly darker shade of green. Some internal info is missing and others are completely wrong.
If your gonna buy one get it from a book shop or supplier, its easier to spot the fake before you hand over £70+ !

I can do the Geordie / English dictionary that they'll need for the translation for a tenner. :)
