Customer has said he wants no fans fitted in either the Kitchen or bathroom because of draft.

Both rooms have a means of rapid ventilation i.e a window.

The job is a total rewire, is it acceptable to leave the fans out?

I would print off document F but need to get some ink. lol

part p approved doc F requires adequate means of ventilation, extract ventilation rates for kitchen are
30 l/s adjacent hobb, 60 l/s other parts
Bathroom / shower room 15 l/s rates quoted for mechanical ventilation rates for rooms containing openable window
so in answer to your queston no. -- hope this helps

My experience would lean towards saying no requirement unless building control is involved although it is still advisable to recommend to the client the advantages of mechanical extract. Are they worried about heat loss or just drafts. Mechanical shutters will reduce drafts and heat recovery fans will eliminate heat loss. Auto shutters aren’t to much extra but the heat recovery units are a bit costly.

Just found in EGBR Minimum ventilation rates table 10.5. But thats for new dwellings.
It also says that purge ventilation can be provided through an adjacent room or conservatory. Does this mean with the pull of a fan?

Did you get that direct from Doc-F bugsy? Rooms with openable window
