We went to look at a fan today that needed replaceing, the original is a couple of months old but has never worked, apparently it was blown up on the original install. A new Xpelair was on site ready for us, the diagrams were the worst I have ever seen, confusing and tiny print.

The colours in the fan connection unit were brown, blue and black all of which were about 1mm flex and then there was another cable in grey which was half the size.

The Live connection had a blue going to it, the L1 had the small grey, L2 had brown and T had the black.

Totally confused I rang then helpline, asked him what was what and explained that I had a normal 3-core with neutral, live and switched live and his response was "that'll never work as you need a switched neutral for our fans"

Anyone else come across this? and would you say that was legal?

Ive come across some mixed flow fans that always running at a very slow speed IE silavent and when you switch on the light goes to full speed hence no timer, ive got a fan on my desk vent axia just like it looks like a jet engine ,even the assessor asked what it was during my last assesment , prefer the good old tried method three core and earth ,getting to dam complicated these days:confused:

Hi sparks it could be a multi speeed fan which uses a controller so you have live neutral earth then switch live for trickle then a second for medium third fast , i could be wrong try here Applied Energy Products Limited - Xpelair ventilation they do a PDF of fan wiring click on the link go to brouchers and its half way down the page

what he said.
and the op is bang on, xpelair diagrams suck, xpel artist, get autocad.
