Evening chaps,

I have had a enquiry from a farmer I had a chat with him and he likes the idea of Solar to utilise his non-arable land. For sure his probably read/ heard/ seen all about utilising solar for such case. I'm certainly not phased taking on larger jobs however I don't want to waste my of his time in looking into this option if clearly the market at this scale on field mount is not there at the current rates.

Therefore I'm asking for some advice on whether field mounts of a acre or more are viable any more. I understand the other DNO costs however even with that in the mix is there an economies of scale that can be achieved on the reduced rates. Plus not even considering the commercial EPC mine field. Planning etc...

His not so happy with roof mounted as his worried about structural integrity of his buildings, however as you can imagine he has many a roof that can fit at least 50Kwp. Again here its the EPC but doing basic calcs at 9p it still looks ok ...providing DNO is ok !

Much appreciated in advance !

Think you will find some of the bigger boys won't generally touch much less than 5 acres. so I would imagine if you look at that sort of area you are definitely starting to get into the right sort of figures, other aspects that really affect it are distance to a large user of electric (industrial estates etc) distance to decent network connection, planning issues, and access/security. hope that throws something into the mix!

Wow most interesting Somecamel ! That explains it clear enough for me to proceed. As I thought detailed understanding of usage and supply makeup would aid the financial models as with any appraisal.

I think that when they say a grain barn would fall out side of it as it would not use power to condition the internal climet , they are being very generous or have no idea what does actually go on in them ?

Thinking about it , we do not have one dairy unit on our books that does not have some form of both heating or cooling built in to it either !

But as long as atleast one building meets a epc of D then all is good !

So a shed with insulation 1metre thick with an energy efficient light bulp and some form of climate device could count. Not wanting to make a mockery of the guidance !!

I love it , thats just proper class !
It's the way that some of these chancers in the market are actually proud of these installations and purposely use them in their advertising ?
Bring on the the reaper i say this industry is just full of dross , and i thought it was like the wild west when it all first kicked off ? Well those were the good days !

If they can't get the installation right. Is it wise to rely on them for advice on the regulations?

They claim to be biggest large scale installer one and their website looks great ! It does make you wonder, shading is the first thought when it comes to design !
