Hi every one just wanted to ask a few questions about testing for faults at college.

On Thursdays I was in the workshop and they brought a board out with a 1x ring final 2x 2way lighting and a radial socket circuits all wired to a consumer unit but it had been wired up with a few separate switches so they could switch one of the separate switches and it would make a fault on one of the circuits and we had to find the fault but my question is what is the sequence that I should use to find faults I thought start with a global ir test but if that shows no fault what would I do next would I have to go through each circuit seperatly and do a continuity and r1 r2 test?

The college rigs tend to be fairly simple mate, it'll most likely be either an IR or polarity fault. It might be a high Zs but that's pretty unlikely really.

Yeah they are only simple there not even connected to a main earth or a live source so just a dead circuit so do you recon I should just go through the dead tests and that should show the fault

Global IR and when you see the fault switch off the MCBs one by one and retest until the fault clears, fill in the answer paper and claim your pass:)
