has any body ever had a faulty honeywell room stat? A customer of mine complained that when the tempareture dropped in there hallway the heating did not come on when the heating was on constant. its a glow worm combi boiler with a standard dial type stat wired using a neutral as well as common and call, all items are 1 year old. Do thermostats stick? I can guarantee the next time i go round to fix it it'll be working fine. Any help much appreciated.

Like going to the doctors :D

If you are on good terms with your supplier, maybe they will let you have a replacement on sale or return so that you can try it when you visit.

Not heard of stats sticking though.

this is the 2nd stat! although the first one was a plumb centre own brand which had exactly the same problem

it is probably something else in that case then. you can see if the stat is switching properly by simply using your continuity tester. put it across L and SL and turn the stat up and down. you can hear it click in and out. remember that a room stat is not a lot different to a switch if you know what i mean. hope that helps.

I have had a couple of stat failures, though they have tended to fall apart.

From experience, if it is not the boiler at fault, then I tend to look at the 3-way vave controlling the hot water/central heating distribution.

I assume that the client is getting hot water, and that it is not the electric immersion providing it?

The 3-way valves usually have an overide in the form of a lever that you can manually change the valves position, i.e. force water through the hentral heating or the tank. Here is an example of such a valve: Horstmann 3 Port Motorised Valve - Screwfix.com, Where the Trade Buys

Finally, check to see if the central heating pump is running...a useful way is to place a screwdriver up against the body of the pump, and then place your ear against the end of the handle...the sound will be transmitted through the handle of the screwdriver, and you should be able to ascertain whether the pump is running or not.

Very rear a standard honeywell thermostat will stick, fault most likely will be with boiler, you mention glowworm,is it one of the betacon range,if so poor boiler
if system not cleaned correctly when boiler installed could be divertor valve sticking
so many intermitant faults these days, you calll at job all ok,drive down the road and phone goes
Thinking of employing a clairvoyant as a assistant :)
