Fence Lighting

I am having my fence updated using the horizontal slats and would like to install some up/down lights.

I am happy with the switching etc im using wireless Quinetic ones.

I was just wondering what is the best way to wire these, do i have to trench SWA along the fence line, up to a JB/Conduit box (hidden by the new fence...hopefully) and then flex upto the lights or can i wire the lights in or before the new fence to save trenching?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated Ive uploaded a couple of pictures of what i want compared and my existing fence?

You can probably clip some outdoor rated cable along the horizontal route, it need not be SWA unless being buried directly in the ground (or otherwise at threat of physical damage), or it is not RCD protected (unlikely in any new installation). Something like H07RN-F rubber flex, or NYY-J round cable (not suited to much flexing) is easier to work with.

It would be easier to do before the new layer is added, but you need to take care it is not damaged by those doing the fencing work and ideally the cable ends are sealed up until you install the lights.

Sir; some advice as if it was my garden - do not install mains voltage lighting down the fence. Use 12V LED lamps instead energised by Safety Extra Low Voltage SELV double insulated power supply inside the house.

These are the sort of lamps I am thinking of:

Make the change to low voltage LEDs with the MR16 4w. Available in Warm White and Cool White it can be used a vast range of areas. Also available to be dimmable to suit anywhere.

12V in the garden provided by the appropriate power supply will be so much safer, and as time goes by and the outdoor installation inevitably deteriorates or is damaged will not become unsafe.

Are the batteries and precious metal extraction environmentally friendly though?

Especially when considering they will be binned after a year or so when they inevitably fail.
