Went to look at a job today (on the move) and going to return tomorrow.....house is a 17th board but mixed wiring.....the shower is on the right hand side RCD, when the ISO switch is turned on everything is fine, but soon as the shower draws any power Then the RCD on the left trips but the one protecting the shower doesn't......? Also the fire alarm (brand new install from why I can gather) is showing power supply fault.....I flicked the fuse spare to off and it went dead so thinking could this be the battery backups being dead ? Also when taking the cover off the board the lights started flicker so checked the bus bar and it was tightened metal/plastic on a couple of the circuits (i did fix this whilst there) also there was a snapped nuetral bar from the plastic holder and no ip ratings around the top and bottom of board, so I come to the conclusion of a bad install, I have never seen the case of the shower fault before? Has anyone else? I am returning in the morning to do a PIR and possibly fix these faults if they agree to paying out again. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

My usual thoughts about such senarios posted - is the CU new and/or who has been fiddling around?

Can you post a picture showing the CU with the cover off

shower.... possible neutral in wrong bar, coupled with the RCD that doesn't trip being faulty. check shower neutral and ramp test RCDs. fix the casing holes with a bit of plastic cut and glued or price for a new CU.

Cheers guys, was thinking it was neutral in wrong bar, drive away kicking myself for not checking whilst had board cover off....makes sence really as its a neutral/earth fault with just the RCD going so it has to be that then......I am going tomorrow but havnt got a ramp test on my fluke :( . But now someone else has said it I am now 99% sure its in the wrong neutral bar....makes sence as the other bar is snapped, diyer probs just shoved it "with the other blues" !!!! Cheers guys

Agree, I usually stud out and mount on a piece of ply then go through the back, then again I charge £400 for a board change using Legrand consumer unit and do a full test, taking most of my day up......not just a £50 special from tool station and bang it in in a hour untested etc!

Yeah well you can usually tell the difference.....as in if a competent person`s been there or an empty head from the pub..like "i`l do it for £100 or so"...........
