typical nanny state. ban something and then it's certain that kids will want to see it and get hold of it one way or another.

Why does it concern you then if something is given a age rating if its not going to stop anything... whats happened over the last 2 decades is the music industry is artists have over and over again played the shock tactic to get a hit and noticed and now its at a point where young kids and teens are posting online vids of themselves dancing in next to nothing and in a sexual manor... sorry but I agree if an artist wants to target the younger generation too then they should respect the power of influence they hold.

Technology has been fast in the coming and access to explicit material and lyrics from bands with a wide audience of young and old is easy for any kid, its sexualising them and trends of questional behaviour is been seen online and in schools that would make any decent parent wince - by saying to an artist if you want to sell your songs or post on our forum then your songs and vids will have to comply to an age rating to ensure the wrong audience is not the target then yes Im for it ... Parents nowadays are unclear how to protect their children online, unaware of what antics they get up to while online and not aware how easy it is for an artist to influence their child ... if a kid is playing a 18 rated game then blame the parent not the industry.

Psychological studies have shown an increase of violent behaviour amongst children allowed to play adult rated games unrestricted and the studies are revealing a sexualisation of kids evident in their behaviour because of the bombardment of erotic dress and dance from bands who have a younger target audience....

When the parents don't understand how to protect their child or in some cases don't even care then the poison needs to be limited at source.

Im sorry but when Rhianna's dance routine means she has to do her bikini line regular then yes sexy as it may be to me or you but definately not for an 6 - 14 yr old audience that are viewing this on normal TV in normal hours.

Its not a nanny state to protect your children by telling the industry you have a responsibility to meet and a decade of been told this they artists have ignored guidelines repeatedly so the only way is to age limit what they do.

Sorry Darkwood I have to disagree with you on some levels with this one.

In my youth (which seems to be increasingly drifting from memory) I got into loads of misschief, as do most kids.
I was drinking beer at 15 on a regular basis, Played 18 rated games and watched 18 videos at a similar age if not a little before.

Now despite all of the stuff I had access to I still turned out ok as did the vast majority of my generation.

I do agree that the parents are to blame and not the system, But even so the system does not work.

Also most of the studies I have seen in regards to kids playing games etc have been somewhat biased, The only one I have seen that I would say was done with a clear slate proved nothing of the sort.
It did show that kids could become desensitised but had no evidence of increased violence etc.
Sadly the media blows these things out of proportion and in some cases completely out of context.

Its like when you see headlines like "Kid of 12 kills boy after playing GTA"
It has no bearing on the game itself, But one has to ask why the parent brought their 12 year old son a 18 rated game.

Its my opinion that people with psychotic tendancies are just that Pschotic.
Something may trigger it but it will always be there, A normal person does not just decide to go out and kill or rape someone.

I think the problem lies solely with bad parenting and a nanny state when it comes to enforcing the law.

Little Timmy couldn't watch the latest eminem video after it received a 15 rating for being awful (as usual), a victory for parents! If Timmy had not of gone and played his airport civilian massacre simulator* that is

*Which is actually a thing in a popular children's shooting game

I have corrected that post for you ;)

Conflicting opinions is what the forum is about so no need to apologise and yes to a certain extent you are correct but all and all violence has increased generation after generation and most evidently when alcohol is involved... its all fine while your in control etc (excluding the real psycho's) but I have definitely seen an increase with alcohol related violence over the last few decades and it has in surveys been related to access to adult material at young ages while the brain is developing but other things have also reinforced this like in 1986 the abolishing of physical punishments in state schools also played a key role too.

Yes I too had similar upbringing and like to say i turned out alright but have had my moments and how can I study myself to think if i'd not been playing them games or watching slash movies would I have been different in the way I behaved especially with alcohol; dont get me wrong I rarely was involved but would it mean I would never have been involved if hadn't gone this route.

Its an hard subject to call with the violence aspect and not what the thread is about but the ratings on music content is subject to sexuality as swearing already has warnings and restrictions if songs contain it... and their has definitely been problems with young kids copying sexual content on vids.... if the restrictions are in place its then just down to the parent to limit access to sites that may show vids.... its already been policed to a certain extent but due to the internet been worldwide its hard for British guidelines to have full affect but put an age label on and its easier for the industry to restrict access which at the moment they don't.

They are currently restricted strictly speaking, But again that system does not work either.
Certain tracks (Eminem for instance) have allways had "mature content" labels with warning against kids buying/listening.
Also music videos are censored the same as regular TV i.e. no swearing before watershed etc etc.

However all these things are pointless when the kid has a chavvy parent who smokes pot, swears and does lude things infront of their kids.
On top of that going back to the nanny state thing of not being able to discipline kids properly comes into play.
Ime sure all on here can say at some point they got a beating off their dad, and we will all probably admit we deserved it and learnt from it!

The one thing I will say is that the internet has much to answer for, It is a source of a huge wealth of education and knowledge, But it needs to be controlled by parents.
Its fair to say that kids now know more about stuff they shouldnt than I did at their age, Possibly even the age I am now!

On the other hand they dont seem as bright or resourcefull somehow.
My last apprentice told me he was strugling writing a paper for his ONC, I asked him why and he said he couldnt find any info!
I rather subtlely (or not) told him that he has the world at his fingertips and should be greatfull and when I did my ONC I had to go to the Library and take out about 10 books!

Unfortunately, I simply do not believe that we can draw comparisons from our own experiences growing up as children and teens. And the reason for that is simply technology. To set up my premise for that statement, I have three kids - 16, 14 and 3. I was also a part-time youth worker for the local authority for nearly twenty years, have worked with 'troubled youths' on placement programs with the Princes Trust and Youth Offenders teams....and so on. I've also seen a bit of life myself and was no angel.

When the teenage me got a telling off and a sending to my room, that was it. The only thing I had to amuse me was whatever was littering my shelves. Now, send my 14yr old to his room and he's in paradise - xbox (live chat), mobile phone (with all the snapchats and whatever rubbish it is they go on about), skype, TV.....yadda yadda. Now, to create the same punishment effect I have to go hunting around the place and wrestle his phone off him, log on to the router and deny him external access and unplug his UHF connection, together with also grabbing the DVD remote to stop him watching movies. In short: it just doesn't happen (despite my better judgement often!)

Since 13/14 at least, the teenage daughter has been a fan of cr4ppy american R'n'B' / gangster rap kind of stuff, full of all kinds of suggestive lyrics about any number of very depressingly adult themes. Where from? Bluetooth shares in the playground. (Why a phone in the playground to start with is an entirely other whole soap-box of mine, don't get me started, I just got out-voted).

And so on.

No, I don't for one minute think that this legislation will achieve anything useful at all, it's far too little too late. And it's not the States' job to educate and inform our youth, that is the responsibility of parents and the society in which they live. And from my perspective, we're suffering from death by a thousand paper cuts and the slow but sure eradication of any kind of social values.

No the origional was correct, I played it online for a week once and certain I was the only one over 12

I dont disagree its filled with kids thats why I stopped playing it as a group of kids with mic's who think they are hard men is irritating as hell.

But its still rated a 18. Ie a adults game.

Like I said though the systems dont work and some people are thick as for lack of a better description.

I do a lot of shooting, anyways I was chatting to a clay instructor the 1 day and he told me about 2 kids he had been hired to teach by their mum.

So he gave them a safety talk, handed the one a .410 (which is a small gauge shotgun) and told him to take a shot.
He did, burst into tears and said he didnt like it.
2nd one has a few goes then says he did not like it.

Now the interesting bit comes when the mother talks to the instructor and says:
"I cant understand it, they both love playing call of duty and shooting people on their Xbox!"

So the instructor gave her a reality check and showed her what a shotgun is capable of followed by telling her that what happens in a game is very different to the real world.

So when you have people like that what chance do you have?

Media in Britain is politically guided and censored to a certain extent anyway but they have no powers whatsoever over access over the internet and limiting it, yes agree too little to late but if an age restriction is in place the artist or record company has then to consider the audience they want to get max profit from so those who have a younger following will only attack their own profits by ignoring any such legislation... where access to these vids is over the net then yes Parents deffo' to blame and most actually need educating themselves.

I view my news not on TV or Papers but online at Liveleaks as it unedited direct from the field and propagander is easily spotted but it has no restricted viewing and only asked if your over a certain age to access very disturbing images - it has no sexual content but its violence can even be hard for me to stomach when viewing Syria, Ukraine Iraq etc and I dread to think of any young influencial mind copping for it while there mind develops... like the government says access to adult sites now should be NO! unless you contact your provider and specify you want the restrictions lifting but this is only in place to new customers so going to take some time to filter in, the parents have failed due to the speed of technology and its an uphill struggle to regain control..... we had no access as kids to this stuff but now mention restrictions may be enforced for material that 20yrs ago would be banned and all hell breaks lose about nanny state... Im sorry do we just carry on ignoring it until eventually the likes of child **** and decapitation are a kids prefered viewing choice or do we protect them the best we can?

I think youjust have to protect them as best as possible and try to instill the difference between right and wrong, which so many do not seem to understand anymore?

Ime not sure if the world has changed massively the last 10 years or wether I have just become older, wiser and more disturbed by it?
It seems a ****ed up place these days where kids rule the classroom, where we are paying to support people on the other side of the world before our own and pen pushers have been let rip to seemingly do as much damage as possible.

I really do wonder whats changed.....

Just went on that liveleaks. I think it's just sensationalism to me, not proper news reporting and the music video's well why don't they put more time into making the song rather than the cheap titillating video

Also that Dr Jennifer aqualera ( yes got it wrong ) her videos are p-r-
