FIA Courses

Any experience of them? I am planning to self fund some but I need to figure out which parts are the most important...
They are a lot of money since ill be paying for them myself, does anyone know if job prospects will be increased much more with these under my belt?

They are good courses, and you will enjoy the day......main modules you need are Install and maintenance/servicing. There is not much point in design if you dont have the experience or cad ability.
The FIA are well accepted courses by all Fire alarm firms, as there is no real college training offered. Apart from BSI

I would say the starter ones are Unit 1 and Unit 5. These are your basic install and maintenance ones which is what most people are after.
There are college courses available for fire alarms but they are few and far between. I completed mine at Uxbridge college but i think from this year onwards, they are stopping the course. I know my class was the last level 3!
Search city and guilds 1853 and see if you can find somewhere that will do it. Its all pretty simple stuff but covers the basics. This alongside your unit 1 and 5 and you should be very desirable in the industry as a basic engineer. Also, try and get yourself on some manufacturers courses. They are normally free and normally basically just a sales pitch but its another certificate to bring to your CV to show your competence. The Kentec one for example is great for getting to know the menu structures inside out. Same as Morley

It is a strange one, as not many fire technicians (as we used to call them) trained as such....The fire & security industry really has no true C&G courses. Most were first year electricians or electronics background. Hence the high pay scale for trusted technicians.
