im looking to get into the solar pv industry. im a self employed domestic electrician and registered with elecsa. i want to get into the solar pv but obviously i would like to have some practical training and gain valuable experience before i pay out for the course and mcs registration. has anyone got any ideas where i can gain this ?

Some things to think about before you leap:

So, You want to train with an exisitng MCS regsitered company and then set up in competition!

Question, is it PV work you want to do, or to get MCS certified? Have you had the MCS certification sales pitch from NICEIC?

If it's PV work you want to do, just go to the MCS web site and search for locally registered comapnies and pitch them with your services.

MCS certification isn't cheap, even when you know what you're doing, and that's not the cost of the the certifying companies, it's all the rest that goes around it, QMS, additional insurances, aditional H&S training, specific PV training etc etc.

How quickly does your business plan predict a return on that investment?

Worcester is right - not to dampen you're enthusiasm but cashflow is a major pain in the backside too - you need 000's to keep everything afloat for the first few months and if you're not vat registered that can take ages too.

On the other hand if you've got a bit of a stash to keep you going for 6 months or so - it's an exciting business to be in. Nowhere near as profitable as you first think but you can make a decent living out of it.

Hit the nail on the head with that statement.
