Good evening,

Customer of mine has just brought a building which has a commissioned fire alarm system throughout.

However, he is converting the basement into an office space. I have had very little experience with fire alarm systems.

The basement consists of two seperate office rooms. One about 4m x 5m and the other around 3.5m x 4m.
A hallway which is about 6m long and 2m width, and a stairway down to the hall.

My thought would be to have a break glass in each office and at the stop of the stairs or the bottom?
And a smoke/sounder is each office and aswell at the bottom of the stairs?

Can anyone give me some advice please?

Many Thanks

First of all the change in premises will change the class of operation under BC.....your safest bet is call point on exit to level staircase, L1 covering all offices and corridors, with smoke & detection in each. You will need to provide & design, installation & commissioning certificate for the complete job

L1 may be over and above but safe route to take if no one has specified a category of system. Anything less and you will need to be providing or obtaining a fire risk assessment with your design which can open up a whole can of worms in itself. You wouldn't need a MCP in each office even under L1(for the size you have specified) just on the change of level.
