Hi Chaps...

Happy New year.

Just looking at a job spec - 2 bed bungalow having extension put on side and loft conversion.

For fire alarm it specifies :

To supply and install A grade A category LD2 fire detection system to be installed in accordance with BS 5839-6: 2004 with detectors sited in the Kitchen / Hallways / Landings for a category L2 system.

???

Any thoughts on this sure its a misprint as this is a full blown system with panel and wired in FP ?

I had this on a similar Spec once, I questioned it but found out the property was gona be a 4 bed house for foster children and thats what was needed!!
do you know if the property is for any special needs?

happy days. more profit than just fitting 2 interlinked smokes. get the fp200 out.

Where has this specification come from???

The norm for a privately owned bungalow would be Grade D, LD2.

The spec you have seems to contradict itself IMO. A Grade 'A' is recommended for properties of 3 storey's & above.

Not to say it is wrong though, just OTT.

Could be something like that..... it's got 2 kitchens ? At first glance it looks like a granny annex sort of set up

Only 2 storeys.

Specs come from main contractor.

Something wrong with specification here, BS5839 part 1 cat L2 would be for commercial or 3 storey HMO
BS5839 Part 6 LD2 is for Domestic or HMO 2 storey.

If this Bungerlow is domestic use only then Grade D is only required to BS5839 part 6 LD2

My thoughts exactly.... oh well have questioned it and "this is what the architect has specified" so thats what he's got along with a cheaper alternative option of a Grade D
