hi i have been ask to replace a fire alarm panel in a student house it has 4 zones 10 somkes 3 brake glass and 3 sounders i have replaced it and he as ask for a cert iam with napit and have got the 4.3 soft wear but not sure about filling it in or what cert can any 1 help please ps all so need help on a cert for emg lights thanks alan

when I install fire alarms I give a installation and seperate commissioning certificate, very easy to fill in, however the emergency lighting is 4 pages and a little more involved, and you need to get a signature from the house holder regarding one page, mind you thats NICEIC certificates, I assume they are based on standard certs comlying to the relevent regs associated with fire alarms and emergency lighting.

on my napit cert are 9 pages for fire alarm what will the cert come under installation ,commissioning, dwelling, servicing, verification bare in mind i have replaced the pannel it asking stuff like is it a l1 l2 l3 p1 p2 p3 and the emg light cert are 9 page or 11 page

really? well I haven't seen those, you need to establish what type of system the emergency light installation is, L2 or other, have you got the emergency lighting info booklet? it will advise you what type of system you need to install and you will need to issue a installation and commissioning certificate, unless you get someone else to commision it.

I have not done the emg light just been asked to test them he needs a cert for the HMO and the fire alarm panel was a quick 380 pound job just need a bit of help on the cert side

thats what i was on about...!!

i know people who can change consumer units but dont know how to test or fill in paperwork..!! same result = potentially dangerous installation..!??

I know what your saying but filling in fire alarm Certs is all new to me there is just a few thing Iam stuck on not every 1 knows every thing it's a learning curve

If you don't know what category the alarm is how can you claim to be competent to fill out the certs? I don't do fire alarms because I can't afford to spend 10 years in prison for manslaughter if I get it wrong....

If i read your original post and you only have 3 sounders in the system, the installation will not pass the required Decibels at the bed head test (i do hope for your sake the system has combined smokes sounders to the bedroom)
The requirements for certification or emergency lighting and fire alarms require you to have the right regs books, the answers are in those books ! (ie did you do a decibel check with all doors closed at the bed head, do you have a decibel meter ?)
Regarding the emergency lighting , have light level readings been taken etc etc

If i was you i would get a independent company in to check and certificate

Good luck

durhamsparky thanks and you are right what you are saying but iam i good spark but not done a lot of paper work for fire alarm certs but the job done right

Sounds like an L3 Fire system, --- only installed for the protection of escape routes.

The best system design (student lets) is normally an L3 ,then the bedsits get there own smokies from the consumer unit. This reduces the false alarms, as the bedsit would sound first, if it was a real fire then the main system would pick up and alert rest of building and the landlord has ticked the boxes for HMO.

However, if its just this system only and possibly a detector within each flat, then it may need additional sounders, to wake up anyone within that room. Maybe another risk assessment should be carried out

To replace the panel would be a Alteration cert, and you would only have to test a device on each zone, not a full re-commission also.

Hope this helps you a little, i think it makes sense lol, im sure someone will correct if im wrong.
