A friend of mine (qualified spark), has asked me to research a fire alarm system, which he thinks may be called "Redline" (its an auto-dial system that uses a mobile cellular phone to call the fire brigade, should the phone lines go down).

As my friend is very much a practical 'hands on' person, he doesn't deal with the internet much and has asked me to pose this question on the forums for him.

Does anyone know of this type of system, or where to find the relevant info, so that he his able to test this installation, as he has been asked to maintain this fire alarm system?

Any legal requirements, regarding this would also be an advantage.

Thanks, JaBBaJawS...

Jabba,

I would have thought being a commercial property that it would be linked to a monitoring station, rather than directly dialing the fire brigade. Depends what the property does as to what level of cover is required. I'm sure someone on here that works day in day out with fire alarms will be along with a definative answer.

I have it in my mind that redline are such a monitoring company, don't quote me on that though just a distant memory thats come up.

The occupants of the building should have all this information, past test sheets, servicing history etc etc....

I know that the fire brigade is trying to minimise the amount of false call outs via this method and now has a, fairly, new protocol out to deal with this and monitoring stations.

I know this is not answer your question but hopefully helped point you in the right direction.

There is only one answer to this question...
All monitoring of a fire alarm system must do done through an approved monitoring station. (Answer)
This can be done by standard digi (not really approved by BAFE)
or standard Red care and Red care GSM. Please note if using security alarm, the system must be capable of handling a full 24hr back by battery psu, or as BAFE no state using seperate 24v STU.
