Hi guys

I have been asked to rewire a shop that has been damaged by fire. I want to put a fire alarm system in there but im not sure what type I need to put in there. I have contacted the owner and the people renting the shop and neither of them know. Im not sure what the regs are on the fire alarm systems.... can any body help. There is one with a basement (unused). Front of shop and rear of shop all on one level. Previously there was a control panel with one break glass two sounders and two detectors. Also there are three flats above the shop. Are there any set regs as to how many sounders/detectors need to be installed and of so where can I find out...

This is a commercial premises, so will need to comply with BS5839 part 1, therefore who advised a risk assessment is untertaken first, would suggest you design and install to L1, unless otherwise stated. Amount of detection/sounders will depend on area size. You also have a duty of care, to alert the occupants of the flats above, by either sounders only, or installing a seperate linked system to the shop. As the shop comes under part1 and the dwellings come under part 6 you can link mains operated smokes with input/output units to shop fire alarm panel.
