Hi talking to an industrial sparky friend of mine about me doing Part P, 17th etc to eventually becoming a domestic installer which I know most time served sparkies detest, but at least someones watching over what I'm doing.

I said I'd got a few rewires coming up blah blah blah to use for my certification.

Immediatly he jumped down my throat and said if I'm doing a rewire I need to put all new sockets and lights etc. at current regs heights not existing and I'd have to fit a wired fire alarm system becuase it was a rewire. Bearing in mind that the house is an old victorian property and new reg heights may look slightly out of place and the customer doesn't want a wired fire alarm system.

My thoughts were only new builds need it be the new socket heights etc. and that a wired fire alarm would be upon customers request ?

can anyone confirm this
