Hi there,

an alarm system to be installed is ld2 cat D in a 2 storey building with separate occupancy, upstairs and downstairs. There is a communal hallway but no communal fuse board. A system is to be installed but all interlinked. Would a good approach to installing alarms be to put the radio links in? So that each flat pays for there own alarms?

poor occupant or mug as the case maybe......as long as there are no pre paid meters installed, you should be ok to fit smokes to each flats lighting circuit, but i would put this to the HMO officer before starting any install....He/She will have the final say. TBH the landlord does have a duty of care to his tenants, and this is real penny pinching.

Thanks for the reply.

My intension was to take off each light for that particular room and then use the radio links, haven't used them through two properties before and was hoping this is viable.

The cost is getting split down the middle, the light will be LED and on timed push switch, so she shouldn't be forking out too much.

If they are owners and not tenants, why has a risk assessment been conducted.....it has no legal standing to force anyone to have alterations done in their own home......there has to be more to this

Yeh I thought the same, one of the owners was advised by somebody, really don't know who. so they then invited the risk assessors in who then came up with this type of system to be installed.... And a lot of other things non electrical. So they want it done.

It does also specify that it requires the smoke in communal hallway to be interlinked with flats. What I find strange is that they only want 1 heat in the lounge of one flat and 1 heat at top of stairs in top flat.
