Hi

I am installing some ip rated downlights in a shower/bathroom.

The void abouve the ceiling has loft insulation.

Do i need to just clear the surrounding insulation of each light OR do I need to place fire hoods over each light?

Chris

fire hoods not necessary unless separate occupancy above. clear at least 6" around each fitting.suggest hear resist. flex for connection to fittings.

Agreed, if there is a separate accomodation area above then this is a fire compartment and you would breach it.

As it is, a traditional house is 1 compartment due to the big hole between floors known as the stairs so no obligation to fit fire-rated or fire hoods however the choice is yours.
