Hi all
can anyone tell me where to find regs regarding the use of fire rated downlights in a domestic property?
I tend to use fire rated fiitings all the time when fiiting new fittings but on this particular install they want wall wash fittings whitch do not come as fire rated and i can't get above to fit a hood(don't tell me to fit it through the hole )any help welcome.
thanks
john

Comes under Building Regs Part B. Electricians guide to the buiding regs might cover it.

As far as I know it only applies where the ceiling is separating two fire compartments. In a domestic situation this only applies if the rooms are part of separate properties (such as flats) or if the downstairs room is a garage.

Edit: See page 32 of http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_ADB1_2006.pdf

as rryles says, no need for fire rated unless separate occupancy above or where fire barriers would be breached. e.g. garage with living accomodation above.
