Hi folks, did my first distribution board changeover. It was new for old, with the BS-88 filled board replaced with MCBs and RCBOs. The existing board was replaced with terminals on a din rail, which fed the new board mounted alongside. Let me know what you think guys. Cheers. J

For a first ever CU mate that is good. Using Din rails as well! I'm not a big fan of cable ties in CU's but each t their own, it makes it neater. Good job Jim

Nice job, well done, much better than my first one!

Using the earth din terminals means that testing circuits would need to be done from the din rail box rather than the DB as you would not be able to separate the earthing in the DB.

I realize this is our first job and are still learning. I have to ask, is there a reason that what look like ring finals, have both legs terminated into the same din rail terminal?

Do you mind me asking how that is? do the earth din rail connectors earth through the din rail as well or something along those lines?

usually, the green/yellow terminals have a metal clip to the din rail and so all the cpc's are linked through the din rail.

i think what we have there is the RFC starting from the din rail terminals, fed from the CU with 2 x 2.5mm parallel conductors, if i read the pic. correct.

Hi folks,

The new board was installed alongside the old one, which has been used as a glorified junction box using the din rail and terminals as links/cable extensions.

Cheers

Jim

Hey Jimmy, out of interest why didn't you fit the new board in the old position so you need not extend the cables? nice job by the way.

Yeah same question as Mike and agree nice neat job, well done!

The existing CU was in an awkward position(above the bottom of stairs), so not easily accessible. By joining a new board to the old one, it brought it across to a location which was much easier to work on/maintain and use. Working off steps for long periods of time wasn't much fun, as it was pretty precarious, but necessary!

Trouble is now though there is an eye sore at the bottom of someones stairs, as I mentioned it is a very good job, but there is no doubt in my mind it could have been avoided, unless the joint is hidden of course then I take it all back.
