Hi there

My name is steve, im 37 and ready for a career change, i am looking at training to be an electrician but i dont know where to start, ive seen courses online that promise an industry recognised qualification for alot of pennies, i aint that soft lol.

Can you guys and gals point me in the right direction, i assume its college but would it be full time or part time and what course am i looking for ?

Sorry for all the questions.

Get to your local college, do an evening course so you can still maintain a steady income.

Try to get some local work with a local electrician on weekends etc..

Not sure on course codes now, last time it was 2330 but I think it changed again.

good luck

Hi clayton
Your best bet is to go college and not waste your dosh on these mickey mouse 5 week courses.
You can go to college 2 evenings per week if you intend on working full time whilst gaining your qualification.
It would also be a good idea to get a ecs card so you can get on site to gain experience if its site work your looking at doing.
Also this forum is the dogs muts for gaining knowledge. I have learnt so much from these guys its unreal so stick around and good luck mate!!

What they said, welcome aboard and good luck mate. Remember, the only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Careful though, post that you're training when you ask a question or some of the (less helpful) members on here will eat you alive.

2330 is deffo not available anymore but the new course even in college is £4500 at my college for two years and does not have same weight as 2330 as I have a friend doing it at present hope this helped

Regards

Cookie!!

yer the course is now 2365 electrical installation (buildings and structures)...i am on it, have been since sept .......its costing me £960 for level 2 yr 1, and the same for yr 2 and yr 3(barring any mass price rises) ....iv heard of ppl paying unto £1100 for it tho,......any questions feel free to private message me,...best of luck.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I look forward to talking to you more while i'm on my journey into the world of electrics.
I will spend today phoning colleges.

Steve

above advice is sound. just like to reiterate that these 5week or thereabouts short courses are fine if you want to learn how to join pipes, butcher wood, or slop paint, but totally inadequate to obtain the knowledge to become a competent spark. the only winners are the course providers taking your hard-earned.

Just a quick update, I've found 2 local places that do the course, 1 is a college @ £5400 and the other is a private college @ £3000.

I'm still looking incase theres a cheaper one out there.
