why is it in the year 2011 that there is no chippy out there that can properly cook chips they spose to be golden in colour and crispy not white and soggy

we have one a couple of miles away that can cook them and they are stunning. most of the others are disgusting. don`t seem to be as nice as a few years ago apart from the odd ones. im feeling hungry now

Its ok because they have probably joined a registered chip frying governing body so even though they cant cook chips to save there life it dont really matter as long as they pay there fees every year.

Come to Weymouth mate, We have the "Chip Shop of the Year" and 2 others who are previous multiple winners of the award. There is fierce competition rivalry between them. All produce great fish and chips.

The best one is on the seafront about 40 miles away!
My nan made the best chips in the world, without any of these new fangled rotofryer, cook with a thimblefull of oil thingies!!!

Is that Maguires as you flick off the hairpin on the main road through rowlands gill towards burnopfield?, if so i didnt think it was all that good to be honest
Theres a chippy near us which cooks its chips the old way in beef dripping, got to be the best around here

Thats the one Vernam, I'm surprised you're not keen mate I often run the wife and kids over there and sit by the stream in the park if it's warm chewing away merrilyon a nice bit o cod.

that will be the £100 thinggy my wife bought got home put away till we moved house then unpacked it n read the instructions 35mins for chips n 45 for chicken i said Chips for breakfast chicken for lunch lol as would be cold before chicken was ready so its ontop of the units now

You generally find the best chippies were or are owned and run by Cypriots. Trouble is, most of the original Cyp chippies in UK have all gone back to Cyprus after having made their fortunes to live a more than comfortable retirement.. Virtually every Cyp i know in Cyprus, that has lived in the UK for any length of time had a chippie shop, a few had 3 or 4 chippies....
Many of those businesses were bought up by Indians and Chinese who can't do fish & chips to save there lives..

I don’t know if it’s still going but both my son and I loved Enoch’s fish shop at Llandudno Junction. It was one of our stop off points when filming steam trains down the north Wales coast. The chips were good, but one large cod would do the two of us.

Several of our local chippies still cook in dripping which was a surprise when i first moved up from Bucks , but the strangest one by a long long way, the one that even beats the one on the side of the road in what is essentially a pimped up garden shed would be about two miles away from me down the A16 at Stickney , it is only open few hours a week on certain days and the best way of describing it is to say that somebody in a standard domestic house just one day decided to turn their front room into a chippy, the bit i find the strangest by far is that the full sized counter and fryers are powered by coal !

got to add broadway chippy in blyth just take a newspaper to sit them on cos they get served in a foil tray if you get curry or gravy .................. rest them on your lap = melted gonads not good !!!

Last time I went to Broadway chippy was when my sister lived in Blyth about 25 years ago, good to hear its still worth a visit though

gormans stamfordham road,colemans in shields and green lane chippy in shields are some of the best ones ive been to,proper chippys not these sell everything type of places,tho the best is neptunes in seahouses,literally out of the sea and into the fryer..

Green Lane chippy = Pascoes mate. It's been ran by David and Brian for years, I grew up about 200 yards from it and it was a weekly treat when my parents used to get us our supper from there
