P
PV Ins Broker
As a specilaist insurance broker within the renewable energy/solar sector we are concerned about the increased pressure and risk put on solar/pv installers up until the 12th December. I doubt very much that this has even registered with the govt and Mr Barker that the risk of injury to solar installers will increase dramatically over the coming weeks. Whilst most agree that businesses are at risk due to the FIT cuts I doubt many have considered the risk to the workers over the next few weeks.
Many installers will have made promises, taken deposits from customers to have solar/pv systems in operation before the 12th December. This will generally mean installers working longer hours often working into the early evening where there is no daylight, with the longer hours comes tiredness and reduced concentration (where accidents usually happen), in addition there is likley to be a drop in temparture in December with ice on the roofs which all in all makes what is already a relative high risk trade even more hazardous.
