Q

QuantumEnergy

We are about to undertake the biggest ever solar PV install in Scotland next month and just going through all the paperwork just now.

Re the FIT licensee, is there a preferred supplier that people advise to use (ie good customer service, know what theyre talking about etc) or are all power companies the same when it comes to this sort of thing?

Also, should we be using the current supplier to the premises or is it ok to use a different supplier?

Thanks

is it wrong that I see this post as a challenge?

how big are you talking, just so I know where the bar is being set?

;)

worth talking to good energy as they will pay over the odds for export.

To be fair to the OP, it is not a technical question that he is asking so there is no reason why he couldn't be full capable of completing a >50kWp install yet not understand the ROO-FIT process.

I'm also intrigued to hear what size the system is.

We're on the verge of winning a very big system but it is pretty average compared to some systems.

It's 250kWp - just read QuantumEnergy's other posts ....

The answer is at 250kWp is that you will want to negotiate with your FIT provider, they will also want export metering, and the DNO may also require you to limit exports at certain times.

You should sit down with
a) your DNO = probably SSE - give them a call
b) all your preferred FIT providers - some may pay more for export than others, this is a commercial negotiation. (make Sure Good Energy are on your list http://www.goodenergy.co.uk/generate )

I would shop around at least 3 or 4 FIT providers to see who will give you the best deal.

Note also that you can have someone else pay your export FIT different from your generation FIt - they do not have to be the same FIT provider, but see above, you may be better off selling your export on the open market.

Its not that we done understand the ROOFIT, we are just trying to learn a lot in a few days. Like I say we normally deal in 50kw and under and have got a tender for a 250kw. You can imagine the differences in hoops you have got to jump thru. Also the client wants it done before the FIT rate cut.
