Hi just a quick question,

Can i certify on site modular slices and porta cabins even though i have not got the 2391 certificate. I have been doing the fixed electrical testing for a company for years but i never signed the certs because i was told i was not allowed, but now im working for a company as an in house spark and they are asking me to test the modular blocks, but i was unsure if my cert would stand up in court if some one claimed with me not having the 2391.

Any anwers appriciated.

the theory that you MUST have 2391 is ****** (although this does PROVE your compatance ) If you have the experiacne and knowlage there is nothing to prevent you signing off work or from doing a PIR

Yep as mogga says, it’s a matter of competence, I only got my 2391 about 4 years ago, prior to that I had been an “on and off subby” for a large I&T company for years. Just a matter of knowing your way round the regs book, knowing what to look for, how to test safely, interpreter the results and recording the info on a cert accurately.

But 2391 is a method of showing your competance.

Ok thats great, so just to clarify i do not need the 2391 cert to leagally sign of test sheets. It ok im just double checking cause my company is putting me through the 17th edition and 2391 courses but there is cabins that are out of date and i wanted to no if i can leagally sign them off.

Thank again for your info.

It's about proving competence and without 2391 OR 17th edition, you would probably have an interesting time in court should you be 'unlucky' enough to be there....
