hi all. just in the middle of a re wire, my question is does the big red book say the cu has to b fixed onto a wood board or can it go straight onto the wall. i can remember one of my lecturers at college saying it should b. cant think why though other then lifting the cu from the wall to give access to the back for cable entry if the cables are coming from above. any help would b appreciated.

no problem fixing to wall unless said wall is uneven and twists the cu body when screwed on. then you have trouble getting the lid to fit.

There is something about fixing to flammable surfaces etc, but you can only do what you can do. It all boils down to common sense and risk assessment, and of course making the job a bit easier. I fix to the wall where i can, but sometimes i will batten the wall and mount the CU to them then bring the cables in at the top, thus maintaining as far as possible the fire rating of the enclosure. Done this for years, and not set fire to owt yet.

Cheers...........Howard

all my cables will be coming up from the floor but wall is very uneven so i will mount on a piece of board to stop the cu from twisting. thanks for the replies.
