Doing a rewire in an old cottage. 2 sockets to be installed in main bedroom. Dividing wall to next bedroom is wattle & daub. There are sparsely placed struts in this wall. At one socket, a strut is on the left and the other on the right. These will not, in themselves provide enough support to hold a box in place. Expanding foam adhesive springs to mind but I would be grateful for any other solutions. Another idea springs to mind, bringing a piece of wood up from the floor, sort of rotated inverse noggin. The builders are placing chipboard over the rotten floor boards so I will have to move quick.

If it's wattle and daub, the building might be listed, or is it lathe and plaster.
These are not listed as far as I know but good point, I should check. Not sure I know the difference between Lathe and plaster and wattle and daub but this lot looks like a combo of both. There is lathe and straw, a lot of old rubbish. Behind the skirting looks like my compost heap mixed with mine discard. I would not be surprised to find a hedgehog hibernating in there. The main walls are stone about 1 foot thick. There are five of these cottages in a row but I am only working in one of them.

goo the boxes in with dot-dab adheshive come back next day, they'll be set in stone.

fingers crossed they don't ask for an outside light, had to fit one on the outside of an old castle wall once took a lot of drilling to get therough the old stone blocks!!!

would a dry liner box fit in there? ive put them in lave and plaster walls before, just cut the laves with a sharp pad saw,was a bit awkward though to be fair.

Lathe and plaster, 1 to 1 1/4 in wide by 1/4 in thick strip of wood (lathe) and plaster you know. Wattle and daub, a woven barrier using willow type twigs (wattle) covered in cow poo and mud mixed with straw (daub). If the cottages are very old (100+) its probably wattle and daub.
