Have a guy asking me to wire lights to galvanised frame car wash , I was thinking PVC pipe to adaptable boxes is only way I can see, would self tappers work , cheers

How thick are the struts / cross supports that you want to fix to , it will almost definitely be OK but will it affect its structural integrity .

Have you got any pictures of it ?

How will self tapping screws affect structural integrity?? This is just another old wives tail i'm afraid!!

Holes drilled into structural steelwork need to be of quite a size, with nothing but cables passing through to have any effect to it's integrity. Holes drilled and tapped for bolt, or holes with correct sized nut & bolt will have virtually Zero effect!! Been all through this with the various project Structural Engineers on every project i've ever worked on, never been refused permission yet!! lol!!

I totally agree with you to be honest !

But my thoughts were more in years to come , the manufactures have gone to the trouble of galvanising it instead of just painting it so i assume it is intended for a reasonably hostile environment .
Not knowing for sure at the moment what environment it is going in , maybe self tappers fixed into a not so well designed piece of equipment might not be the first choice ?
In the past we have worked on a local landfill site and have carried out repairs on the the sites exiting truck wash , along with the wash chemical and the leachate it was not as structural sound as when it went in , to say the least .

It is all very well for Tom Dick and Harry to just blindly agree with the op's first thoughts , but some times a little more info does help .

No offence meant to thelondoway, with the last comment .

Edit; Or of coarse you Engineer54 , as i do totally agree with your point as well .
