Flameproof Lighting

I have been trying to find a UK source of flameproof lighting units - the ones in our paint spray shops and flammable stores are probably 30 years old and difficult to replace the internal 65W fluorescent tubes

The spray shops have low ceilings with wired-glass windows and lamps positioned above them. The glass is easier to keep clean of paint overspray than light units

My web search came up with empty directories or suppliers in India. Tube lights have been preferred because they give an even distribution of light across the work area and sprayers can't stand in their own light.

Does anyone have any recommendations or know of potential UK suppliers?

I usually get all me Ex equipment from R+M Electrical group. Usual make is CEAG for light fittings, all depends what zone your shop is.

Just make sure its an EX d fitting that you buy.

Also for its certification to be valid it should be fitted by someone with their compex certificate, inspected then andded to your Ex register.

Yes, I am aware of the regulations, etc and I will not be doing the work. My technical and electronics background means I get all the awkward questions! We have asked our electrical contractor to look at the problem but I was interested to know what the options might be

Ensure that any light fitting complies with the current ATEX regulations which your contractor should know about if he is compex trained.

Not necessarily, EX d fittings are expensive, as we dont know what the area classification is, he may be able to use `ex e` fittings which are cheaper. Not disagreeing with what you say, just no need to go OTT.
