Flexi armoured ???

Hi All

Any thoughts on Flexi Armoured I think its called SY cable. Is it just used for interconnecting equipment or can it be used for anything else

Any thoughts please

weve used it to wire lights up in a factory before. isolators in kitchens.etc etc

Ok thanks for that got to run a supply for a Split unit air conditioning unit was going to use that as i think SWA would be to hard as it is a diffuicut run. The length of run will be around 30m max should be ok then and only pulling around 12A FLC

we use sy when we do a/c units, just reminded me.
swa to the isolator then sy out to the unit.
just remember that the braiding needs earthing, have u used it before?

The Waterboard use it alot but as you mentioned its mostly short links from isolators and starters to apps, its a handy alternative to swa when flexibility and mech proctection is required but im sure the bs rating is important as the internal type really doesnt like direct sunlight.
have seen it installed with stuffer glands to maintain ip rating with the braid twisted sleeved and termed as an earth or drainwire but the correct slotted gland can be used similar to a swa gland to pick up the braid but i dont think they go up to e1w rating.

We use it a lot offshore and hawke universal glands are used for terminating

Suprised its used offshore.Most of our stuff was fire resistant ect

good stuff to use quite durable too. used often for final circuits to machines etc, keep the terminations clean though or you'll end up with a lot of little pin pricks in your finger tips
