Jabbajaws

I have alot of 3 core flexible cable, which is 1.5mm sq.

My question:

Am I permitted under BS 7671 to use it for linking stappers between 2 way switches instead of using 3 core twin+earth PVC?

I am unsure on this as l havent got my regs handy this evening.

Im thinking that as long as the cable can carry the tabulated current, after applying any necessary correctional factors, and is supported correctly that this is perfectly ok.

Would l be correct to assume that? Or a reg of rule of thumb that forbids it?

All replies welcome...

yes they do and with three core flex ie two strapper and earth core you have got one!!!

you only need two strappers when using the live feed in one end and switched live at the other (singles in conduit method)
That was how I read it originally ie two strapper and common and no earth but the op was talking about using 3 core flex for strapper only I think, that is why I edited my first post.

its saying that 1.5mm T&E has a current rating of 18Amps whilst 3 core 1.5mm flex is rated at 16Amps and has a temp range of 85'C. cant see a problem with it! wouldn't use it personally.

info not from regs BTW.

Am I not right in saying that stranded cable will/can carry a greater current than a solid core found in pvc/pvc....

Might be wrong..
