Hello, Is there a good replacement bulb for 1000watt r7 as they only one i have found is 40W R7 Low Energy Saving but it only gives 1800 lumens and i dont know what the normal bulbs produce but i was sure it was 20000ish.

Many thanks for any info or advice

I found the CFL ones were not too bad though not quite as bright, but do you really need 1000W brightness?
Would it be easier to have multiple fittings at lower rating?
SMD LED R7 lamp replacements are quite good but they are very expensive about ÂŁ60 and they still do not produce the same LM rating and the light "throw" is reduced.

You may be better off buying a new fitting and using halide or sodium lamps or perhaps a dedicated LED one, which are quite bright and have fixed lamps, but again expensive.

Is there a big difference in the amount of light eg <50% ?
They have two halide light that i fitted years ago but dont want them on all night due to running cost and only want the lights to come on when they walk out to car which isnt very often so had 3 sensor and 1 light fitted, they dont want any more than the one wire running up the front of the building as it 140 years old and dont want to spoil look of the building so im stuck with the one light thats there but the trouble is the bulb blows every 6weeks or so and with it being 8meters high im sick of changing it now hence thought of CLF

I would say that the CFLs are a little dimmer if you get the ones that fill the space of the flood, the ones that half fill the space are noticeably dimmer but OK for general lighting. The LED replacements are dimmer significantly, but the dedicated LED floodlights are about the same if you have the row of SMDs rather than the one single but cost about ÂŁ200.
If you are using the CFLs then you could fit two lights side by side at the same location, no more wires, similar look and no worries about overloading, unless replaced with 1000W again!

However the lamp should not be blowing that often so check for water in the fitting, loose seals, dirt /grease on the lamp as installed, good clean contacts in the fitting, secure wiring connections.

I agree it would be worth looking for the actual problem rather than trying to work around it. The results you would achieve with a different lamp would be unpredictable if there's an underlying problem. I would run all the usual tests on the circuit including loop impedance. Also go methodically through the circuit to visually inspect for burned or poor terminations, water ingress etc.
