What are you fitting and why? I am still fitting 70 or 150 Watt Metal Halide with built in photocells. Are the new LED one's up to the job and is the sky high price justified? A lot of customers want the LED floodlights, but not pay top whack for them. How do I keep the customer happy and the job affordable?

Iv only seen 2 LED floods fitted and they give cracking light BUT the cost of decent ones will put most domestic owners off but some commercial ( government funded) can get grants to reduce their carbon footprint and the length of service for LEDs and the savings of power use assist these requests

I am fitting 70 watt Metal Halides with 15,000 hour lamps, replacements are ÂŁ8 a go. Surely that has got to reduce service and maintenance costs? With these lamps at about 80 lumen's per watt, they are on par with some LED floods.

I was talking to a spark i used to work with the other day that has been replacing 400W metal halides with 100W LED floods. The light output is supposed to be comparable (slightly less for the LED but no by much). Supposedly because of the 2 year guarantee on the fitting and the number of hours per year that the fitting is running for the saving in energy costs makes it very much worth while. I'm hoping to go see these lights in action at some point so may be able to report back opinions soon.

The quality of light isnt as good with LED. They dont pick out the colours like a metal halide. If its purely security, this isnt a problem, but for architectural lighting I'd go metal halide. Plus, i'm yet to see LED technology live up to its claims in terms of lamp life. so many manufacturers are releasing LED fittings, but i think its an area where you really do get what you pay for.

The floodlights I would normally use is this one, the LED floodlight I have suggested to the customer is this one. The light output seems to be similar on both, the lamp life for the Metal Halide is better than ones I have seen elsewhere. They are being a bit shy about the lamp life of the LED one though. As my customer wants overnight operation and is not prepared to pay for the LED, the Metal Halide floodlight seems to be the winner.

I also noticed a lot of customers now want LED Floodlights, but the price of LED's are not that bad anymore and they have a lot more benefits than Metal Halide. I did a bit of shopping about for my Electrical business and found some really good prices for LED Floodlights but had to buy them in bulk to get those prices. *Advertising Link Removed*
