I dont use the fluke mike, but you would be better off just using one leg of the ring for testing.

If it stays on 500 then it maybe that the reading is over range meaning cables are good.

Best way to test meter is to clip the crocs together and press the button. It should give 0.

Musicmaster..
You are testing correctly although i would have left the phase conductors in the breaker to make it a little easier.. Anyway, the reading on the fluke is correct as it says >500Mohms. This basically says the insulation of the cables is absolutly perfect. Any reading above 1Mohms is a pass although i would not be satisfied with a 1Mohm reading, and a lot of other electricians would agree there and would need a bit of investigation. For me i would expect a reading of at least 20Mohm...
Also, doing Insulation Resistance tests with the Fluke meter cannot damage itself at all, even if you short the leads with 500v test. Dont worry about the meter at all, Its a FLUKE!!!!......
Test results and Voltages
SELV / PELV = 250 V = Min 0.5 Mohms
Upto 500 V = 500 V = Min 1 Mohms
Hope this helps:)

you do know mate that your testing with the fused leads on though, they do pull off the probes if your wondering, makes it easier to get them into db.
