fluorescent light interfering with tv?

ok. so my TV is old and has a small hissing sound. when i turn a fluorescent light on it makes the hissing sound slightly louder. whats the reason to this?

The ballast will generate RF noise new ballasts are high frequency and they should have a filter to stop this.

try an inline choke/ferite core on the mains lead of your tv (they click over the cable no wiring req) just select the size you need for the cable

carnt be certain it will work and if you arnt in a hurry order from china on ebay very cheap. Hope this helps

Depends on the light fitting you have 2 ballasts in fluorescent fittings switch start and high frequency and yes the high frequency should have suppression , but before i start using chokes etc I'd change the suppression capacitor that's normally across the supply as the old one may well have dried up and be the cause of the noise
