Waiting on the forklift driver to drop off a switchboard today... Around 2m high 4m long and had no spotter or strapped on and the bloody thing only tips over.. Estimated $45000 board going for scrap. Bad day for this fella he's now looking for another job..

I hope you didn't laugh.

It's rude to laugh at other people's misfortunes. :devil2:

From what height did it fall and did it fall on it's back or on it's face?? The bulk of that high costing is the breakers and the protection relays (if any), if they weren't damaged it's just the internal formwork, bracing and casing that needs replacing. Had a similar experience some 15 or so years ago. The manufacture sent over an Engineer and fabrication team. Within the week, all the parts that were assessed to be damaged were on site and the switchboard being re-built. Took about 10 days in total to rebuild and conduct factory level off line testing and commissioning.

All depends on how far the Switchboard was dropped from, if it tipped over backwards at ground level (as was our case above) then the damage wouldn't particularly warrant a complete new build...

Way in the past, I once dropped an old Wylex 5486 rewirable 4 way 15 ft from a ladder. Sweet bugger all wrong with that.

Don't make 'em like they used to....

the shameful part of it is training on forklifts requires that you be sure a load is stable and secure.
because it was not properly secured it fell off
moving something like a panel is usually classed as an oversized load requiring extra precaution
so its either complacency or failure of the driver to inspect the load before moving
an expensive mistake in more ways than one

I nearly lost a System 4 board through the floor.

An oldish switchroom with a cable chamber below it. The structural engineer had it all worked out and said there’s no problem with floor loading. Last time I ever took his word for anything!

I’d already put about 10Te of new gear in there, this was the last bit to go in.

I’d had a section of the roof removed and the crane lowered the panel in. Everything was fine until it touched down. An almighty crack appeared in the floor the full length of the room. Get the ******* panel out quick! I don’t know why I used the radio, everyone on the works must have heard me shouting and swearing.

There then followed a frantic search for RSJ’s across the works. The plant fitters and welders cobbled a frame together that could jack the floor back in to place and then be welded solid.

All in all a fun day even though I was 14 hours late going home.
