Hi all im filling out my test paper work getting everything ready for my first inspection and i just have a question regarding one of the sections on the electrical installation cert.

In the section Main switch or circuit breaker does this apply to my main switch in the consumer unit ie 100a 2 pole Bsen 60439-3, or would it apply to the electricity company isolator?

also in that section underneath the type BSEN is a box with voltage rating/range what does this apply to?

Many thanks

Chris

this refers to the main switch that isolates the whole installation so if theres an isolator before the consumer unit then that is the main switch

BS EN 60439-3 relates to the consumer unit. Your main switch will be BS EN 60947-3.

Your right 60439-3 does relate to the consumer unit. If the main switch is 60947-3 where does it state it as I can see it on the main switch it's self, thanks.

it also says on the switch "400v". well, it does on most of the ones i've seen.

Wylex are 240v as I guess are all the ones from the Electrium group.

Are you sure you're not thinking of triple pole switches?

i have 2 2 pole switches in front of me ( as in main switch in CU ) one is proteus, one is crabtree. on the front it clearly states 400v. that is it's max. voltage rating. OK it's being used at 230v, but it is rated up to 400v.

Seems to differ then as the MEM Memera 2000 consumer units which I replaced yesterday had main switches rated to 240v. Obviously there's a need to actually look at the switch and not assume it's 230/240/400/415v rated.
