Is there any way of being able to write formulae on a 'normal' post on the forum without having to write it out and insert it as a picture, or at the very least be able to insert symbols, eg degrees, squared etc and letters of the Greek alphabet, eg Pi, Omega (Ohm) etc?

I appreciate this might not be a standard feature of forums, but given the amount of calculations involved in our trade it would make trying to explain how to work things out a lot easier to understand.

You can use Microsft word and then copy/paste into a thread..

1
XC =
2 ∏ f C

= 20 Ω

It seems to do the symbols ok, but not the line drawing or extra spaces.

The following works on a PC, not sure about Mac.

Hold down the Alt key and using the numeric keypad (right hand side of keyboard) type the following codes:

Degrees = 0176 = °
Power of 1 = 0185 = ¹
Squared = 0178 = ²
Cubed = 0179 = ³
Quarter = 0188 = ¼
Half = 0189 = ½
Three quarters = 0190 = ¾
Plus/Minus = 241 = ±

then let go of the Alt key.

Here's some HTML character codes. Type these codes in place of the symbols when posting:

Pi = & #960; = π
Omega = & #937; = Ω
Less than or equal = & #8804; =
Greater than or equal = & #8805; =
Square Root = & #8730; =
Divide = & #247; = ÷
Delta = & #916; = Δ

I have left a space in between the & and the # in the examples so they display correctly. This is not needed when using these codes.
