whats the requirments when siting a fused switch for the spur for cooker,i noticed one today and it was directly above cooker,surly this wrong as the heat of the cooker could damage it,is there a distance it should be from cooker

300mm either side..(although some sparks will keep it a minimum of 600mm...........

Less than 2 metres last time i checked.Other than that its common sense.What's the regulation about 300mm?

Not sure if it is a regulation just guidance, switch for cooker should be 300mm away to avoid reaching over the cooker to switch off, should be less than 2m away so that it is local to the cooker if required. I think this is in the pretty pictures in the sparks guide to the building regs.

Correct, not a reg but Guide to Part P says 5.2.2 (ii) "... not positioned so as to lean over hobs to operate". THEN the pretty picture shows 300mm between hob and cooker switch.
