Hi, We have a problem with our tv and freeview set up. We installed freeview about 2 years ago and did not have any problems with any channels. About 6-12 ago we started getting break ups and freezing with itv and now in the last month we can not view many channels at all. We bought a new freeview box with new coaxial lead, but doesn't make a difference. I have bought new gold plated mm and mf leads to try and solve the issue as I was told cheap coaxial leads can cause tvi. Nothing has worked. Can only get BBC1 and BBC2 at present and a few other channels in the evening, but 3,4, and channel 5 completely blank and just says no audio/video black screen. We have connected MM lead to freeview box and aerial, MF lead from freeview box to TV, scat lead from tv to freeview box and scat lead tv to DVD player. No other leads connected. We have the tv situated in a small room near to the outside wall which gets very cold. The electrical sockets are situated on the same wall.

appreciate any advice offered.

Helen

Sounds daft but check with your neighbours. These issues have been more frequent since the digital switchover on terrestial transmitters so make sure its not weaker transmitter signals rather than your install or telly.

Have'nt read through the so thiis might be repatition:

Check connection from aerial to box / F connectors are best
Check cable for damage,
Check aeial signal ( they normaly use a meter for thid but if you can get to try realigning it:D

Sounds like an idea to me. I remember reading something about the transmitters not really being up to the job, and now with more and more channels, this may cause problems for some people.

Take the freeview box to another house and plug it in and retune it. If it works then you have a aerial problem because me thinks that is what the problem is also beware we are right in the middle of a big digital changeover where you may have to retune the box a couple of times.

As for gold plated leads I had a mate years ago who was into Hi-Fi and he raved about how good a deck was until I happened to mention thats ok using an osiliscope to detect the peak signals but the human ear does a better job
