There is a channel link for one to top up the other as required
They tend to be the ones who do the topping up

Back last year there was talk of using a DC link to northern Europe from the Sahara desert

I suppose Dc transmission and Ac both have their pros and cons

Currently, UK Demand is at 43599MW. Importing 496MW from FRA & 536MW from NED. Output at 50.099Hz.

There are 2 cross channel links, both designed to transfer in either direction. England has yet to commercially export an eggcup full to France. Then there’s the Dutch link.

No wonder this countries gone to the dogs.

HVDC is far more economical apparently. You have no skin effect, and no inductance. You have no RMS value for current. The extra electronics required more than pay for themselves, especially with the spiralling costs of raw materials for cable ect.

France is proposing building more nuclear power stations. They’ve more than enough capacity for their needs, we on the other hand have no firm plans for new generation other than wasting money on fart farms. So I guess we’ll need the new proposed cross channel link!
