fridge counter in cafe

a guy has rang up this morning and said his fridge counter is blowing the fuse randomly , maybe 20 fuses a week..

i would say there is a motor in this, would you say this is the problem, or what tests could i conduct , as i dont think the megger will show short as only trips randomly..

maybe the stat or something maybe. cheers trev

its on a 13A plug

check trhe rating of the cabinet. it may be that it needs a dedicated 16A circuit..., commando plug/socket.

Yes, could be happening when the compressor kicks in. How old is the thing?

Turn it up full and clamp it to see what it is pulling. 500v IR it L-E, N-E to check for any obvious leaks. Is it a new bit of kit, or has it been working for years and suddenly started playing up?
Fault-finding is a bit of an artform which comes with time and experience.

Could be anything from defrost heaters, condenser fan motor, evap fan motors, unlikely to be the compressor as they just kick out on the overload klixon, this is a disconnect connected loads one at a time job but my money is on the defrost elements a manky job by the way make sure your tetanus jabs are up to date

Check its not sat on its cable, nobody cares about cables anymore, they are treated with total disdain. Other than that - clamp it for a look see

I never seam to remember my camera at those moments, but i know what you mean, if i come back it will not be as a cable thats for sure.
