Hi, currently working as an electrical maintenance engineer in a factory environment mainly carrying out fault finding but with the odd machine installation. My brother in law is currently a domestic electrician. I would like to be able to give him a hand when he is busy and possibly be able to do small jobs for my self on evenings and weekends. I currently have a Nvq level 3 in electrical engineering as well as a Btec level 3 in engineering. I also completed a city and guilds level 2 installations (2330?). I have also recently completed my 17th edition. I would like to know what I would have to do certificate wise to be able to register with niceic and be able to self certificate.

Thanks in advance
Tom

Hi Tomm You shouldn't have any problems joining one of the schemes with your Quals although there are other things to consider when doing your own work alongside a paid job, you will obviously need public liability and indemnity insurance, your vehicle will need to be insured for business use and also make sure your employer is ok with you doing your own work some employers don't like it.
