When based in Reading last year the company I worked for charged £75+vat for callout jobs (although did include first hour) however I always told the client that after rectifying the callout fault they still had the remainder of the hour for any other electrical odd jobs they might require. After all I never felt comfortable charging the customer nearly £90 for resetting an MK mcb!
As for rewire pricing... £1k per bedroom is a pretty good guide if using standard pendants and standard white switchgear, but a guide is all it is. Any accurate quote would always demand a detailed survey of the property.

I am sorry and i may be giving electricians a bad name for high prices but I could not charge a call out fee to reset a rcd or change a socket front unless It was over a 20 min drive. I would just charge £3-5 for fuel and £10 for me (extra £3 for a socket / switch )

I may be wrong to do so?

i would struggle to make a living at them prices

I make a living from my daily work, but I would not charge silly money to change a socket front or re-set an rcd

changing socket fronts and switches is my daily work and at them prices i wouldnt still be in business.
your figures are more like mates rates than wages

Just to make it clear that was the company charging £75+vat per callout, personally I think around £40 is a fair price.

I think you gotta let common sense prevail really. I think charging someone £70 + vat to change a fascia is a little steep, I dont know; maybe its a north south divide thing! Personally, i'd feel a little guilty charging someone the above which would only amount to roughly ten minutes of my time, inc paperwork!

interesting comments though

thanks

:D

I agree livewire.....if you're running your own outfit I think it's important to know your local market and customers. As I've mentioned before I KNOW I get loads of callbacks and referrals if I'm reasonable with a basic callout fee. You should cover your costs but not over-egg it.

Flukey

People will remember you for doing them a good deed. If you went in a house for 20 minutes and charge me £70they will feel robbed but if I just asked for £20 for the same job who do you think willl get the job rewiring the customers house in future?

Then you can charge real prices and make your money back of that favour

my call out charge is 40 quid which covers the first hour too. seeing as i am in my 22nd year of running my own business i cant be that far off the mark. charging £13 is commercial suicide in my opinion

I wouldn't get out of bed for that price. Don't undervalue your skills, and sleep!:D

its not possible to make a reasonable profit if folloaing the part p guideance on that price£1300!
for a 3 bedroom house for a non vat registered spark with occupants i would quote around£2200 at the cheapest if i really wanted the job
